“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
— John 16:33
Trouble comes in all shapes and sizes. You might be experiencing growing pains in your legs at night or have asthma. You might have people problems: your best friend moved or the bully in gym class stole your shoes. You might have money troubles sometimes: you can’t afford to join your friends at the water park, or your family’s been evicted from your apartment for not paying the rent.
Sometimes people are told that if they just accept Jesus as their Savior, all their problems will be over. The Bible clearly teaches that is not so. Jesus told his disciples that they would have troubles, but not to be discouraged by them. God uses the trials and tests in our lives to teach us valuable things, like patience and endurance and the power of prayer. We wouldn’t develop these necessary qualities if life were smooth all the time. However, we can have peace in the middle of the trouble. We can be sure that God has everything under control. So take heart and have courage!
