“I am bringing my righteousness near, it is not far away; and my salvation will not be delayed.”

— Isaiah 46:13

Saved!

You remember Isaiah, don’t you? The prophet God sent to talk to the people of Jerusalem when they were at their worst?

Seriously, those people were a mess. God said they were so stubborn that it was like the muscles in their necks were iron and their foreheads bronze. They absolutely refused to listen to God and obey him, which put them so far from him they were barely in the same universe. And yet God still said, “I am going to save you. I’m going to bring peace and justice, and nobody can put you down any more.”

“What’s the deal?” you may ask. “They didn’t deserve to be saved!”

That’s just the point. God doesn’t save us from our own bad behavior and stubborn thoughts and downright yuckiness because we deserve it. He saves us because he loves us and just wants us with him. All we have to do is trust him. It’s that simple.

The guy writing the psalm above was running from people who were seriously out to get him. He knew the only one who could save him, even if he died, was God. If he could trust that, surely we can too.
