“God tested Abraham’s faith and obedience.”

— Genesis 22:1 (NLT)

This Is Only a Test

Sometimes God tests us to strengthen our faith or prove our loyalty. Only a test will reveal if we truly mean what we say. Abraham had already passed many tests, but none as big as when God asked him to sacrifice his only son, Isaac. God needed to see if Abraham would be obedient no matter what God asked him to do.

Do you face a test today? What can you learn from this lesson that might help you in the weeks and years to come? Think of one test you’re facing — a grumpy teacher, a difficult parent, an annoying little sister? How might God use that test to prepare you for tomorrow?

“The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold, but the Lord tests the hearts” (Proverbs 17:3 NKJV). Silver and gold are made pure in the fire. Heat removes the worthless material (the impurities). People are refined in God’s fire of testing for the same reason. When your next test comes, pray and ask for God’s help, then pass the test with flying colors!
