“I call to God, and the LORD saves me. Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice.”

— Psalm 55:16 – 17

God Is Always There

When Lauren woke up and rolled over, the pain in her shoulder reminded her of her bike accident and broken collarbone. “God, I know I shouldn’t complain,” she whispered, “but I really hate wearing this brace! It’s ugly, and I can’t run now, and it hurts worse than the doctor said it would. Help me!” Did God hear her cry? Absolutely. When Lauren lay quietly, other things came to her mind: how lucky she was not to be killed when the car hit her, how blessed she was to have friends who carried her books, and how fortunate she was to live in a country where doctors were available to set bones. By the time she was done praying — which is both talking and listening to God — Lauren’s feelings were the opposite.

We can trust that God hears us when we cry out to him. We can trust him to handle the concerns we face each day, and to identify every worry and care that troubles us. By giving up “ownership” of our worries, we transfer the problem to God to solve. “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about what happens to you” (1 Peter 5:7 NLT).
