“Cease striving and know that I am God.”

— Psalm 46:10 (NASB)

Keep Calm

When times are frightening and our world is falling apart, the Lord tells us to calm down. We are to stop spending so much energy on figuring out what to do. He says to be silent, to be still. Remember that he is almighty God, and he has everything under control.

When you’re upset or angry or in pain, it takes faith to be quiet and concentrate instead on God’s power to save you. Stretch your faith muscle, and think on the good things of God and how he’s solved your problems in the past. “Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still” (Psalm 4:4 NKJV).

Part of being still and knowing that he is God is trusting in a good outcome. If God is permitting problems or a crisis into our lives, he has a purpose. And if we trust him through it, he will make it all work out for our good. “We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).

The next time a problem hits you, stop. Don’t wear yourself out running around. Get quiet instead. Let God speak to you and help you.
