“He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters. He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me.”

— Psalm 18:16 – 17

Maybe you aren’t facing any enemies at school or in your neighborhood. Your enemy lives in your house. You were happy when your mom remarried, and you loved your stepdad. But with the remarriage came your older stepbrother, who seems to hate the new family. He takes his anger out on you.

But you know about God’s rescuing David from his enemies. And you know that “God doesn’t show partiality” (Acts 10:34 NLT). If God would rescue David, he would rescue you. You pray to be protected from your stepbrother and to have a safe home. One afternoon, your stepdad arrives home unexpectedly from work and sees his son attack you. He steps in immediately. In the end, your stepbrother moves to his mom’s house in another state, and peace settles over your home.

There are many millions of people on this earth. Why would God take time to rescue you? “He led me to a place of safety; he rescued me because he delights in me” (Psalm 18:19 NLT). He saves you because he loves you.
