“My enemies will turn back when I call for help. By this I will know that God is for me.”

— Psalm 56:9

You Can Do It!

One of the “muscles” God gives you is strength when you’re in trouble. And who can get in more trouble than you? It might not be the principal’s-office kind, but if you are a girl between 8 and 12, there are dilemmas in your life. This psalmist has nothing on you.

“My adversaries pursue me all day long” (verse 2). Heard any gossip this week? Any rumors?

“In their pride many are attacking me” (verse 2). Anybody jealous right now? Seen any fights over who said what to whom?

“All day long they twist my words” (verse 5). Have there been any meetings in the girls’ restroom about what she said, how she said it, and what she meant?

“They conspire, they lurk, they watch my steps” (verse 6). Has anybody criticized anybody this week? Told on anybody? Jumped at the chance to tease?

A girl has to be strong to get through all that. You are. You just have to go where that strength comes from. “In God I trust,” you have to say, “and am not afraid. What can man (or girl!) do to me?” (verse 11).
