“In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.”

— Psalm 4:8

Ahhh . . . Sleep

Samantha never worried during the day. She was too busy with school, soccer, babysitting, and her friends. But once she crawled into bed, fears invaded her mind. What would she do about the money she owed her best friend? When would she finish her history project? Why did her grandmother look so frail these days? Worries swirled around her mind, stealing her sleep.

Samantha was certainly not lying down and sleeping peacefully. But she remembered one great secret: prayer will push out worry. So Samantha took each situation, one by one, and prayed for God’s help and intervention. Step-by-step, she gave her worries to him, and at last she fell into a peaceful sleep.

Your safety and success don’t depend on your worrying and planning. The Lord is your security. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6 – 7).

So tonight, pray and give God your worries. Then snuggle down and sleep, trusting him to take care of you.
