“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear.”

— Psalm 46:1 – 2

Safety in the Storms

If you fall into the deep end of the pool but can’t swim, a lifeguard will rescue you. Usually we need rescuing from things less obvious than drowning. You might have two papers to type, and your computer breaks. Or perhaps you agreed to be the hostess for your class barbecue, but now it’s raining, and you have no place to put fifty classmates. Help! Or, more seriously, maybe you or someone you know is being abused at home. In all these cases, someone must come to your rescue. It’s okay to ask a trusted adult for help — especially if someone is being abused.

How do we make God our shelter from storms and the strength we need to get through these situations? By prayer and faith. Sometimes the rescue comes immediately. Other times it takes a while. Sometimes the answer from God is to take action. Other times the answer is to keep reading your Bible. But the help WILL come. God has promised it. Stand firm until the answer comes, and “imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises” (Hebrews 6:12 NKJV). Because of that assurance, take courage. Help is on the way!
