“Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.”

— Proverbs 15:22

Seek Advice

It’s good to carefully plan projects, but those plans often don’t work out if you fail to ask advice during the planning stage. If you listen to many advisers, your projects are more likely to succeed.

Suppose you and your best friend are tired of having no privacy from your younger brothers and sisters. You decide to build a tree house where you can be left alone. Your dad offers to help with the tree house plans, but you say you don’t need help. You and your friend already know exactly the kind of tree house you want. You work till sundown two nights in a row to build your creation. Unfortunately, you’ve built the little house on a dying branch. The limb breaks during the night, and in the morning you find the tree house on the ground, smashed to pieces.

Pride and overconfidence can keep us from asking for advice. That’s usually a mistake! No one is smart enough to do everything on her own. The right counsel can make the difference between success and failure, between victory and defeat. Listen to wise people, learn from their experience, and succeed!
