“The Lord is my light and my salvation — whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life — of whom shall I be afraid?”

— Psalm 27:1

Fight Fear — and Win!

Fears come in all shapes and sizes. You may be afraid of the water, but you are required to take swimming lessons at school. You may be moving, and you’re afraid to go to the new school. You may live in an area where tornadoes or hurricanes are frequent. You may be afraid that you’ll never have a close friend who really, really cares about you. God never commands us to do something that he won’t give us the power to do. You can count on that. If he tells you to have courage, to be brave, then he will give you the strength and power to do it.

It’s normal to feel fear. Most of the great men and women of the Bible felt horrible fear at times. God simply says that when you feel the fear, don’t run. Don’t flinch from doing what is right. Step out, and God will meet you there. And when the challenge is over, you’ll realize God was with you — walking you through it step by step — all the way. You will feel much less fear the next time you face that situation.
