“I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit . . . without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a sign to them that they will be destroyed, but that you will be saved — and that by God.”
— Philippians 1:27 – 28
Don’t be frightened or feel threatened by your enemies. Your calm fearlessness will prove to them — it will be a sign — that you will overcome. Your peaceful courage is evidence that you are going to be saved, even by God himself.
Because you were homeschooled, most of your friends are from church or other homeschool families. When you start middle school in fifth grade, you’re shocked and hurt by the kids who make fun of you. They ridicule your longer skirts, your “What Would Jesus Do?” bracelet, and the kittens on your notebook cover. They call you a baby — and worse. You grow to fear going to school.
“Listen to me, you who know right from wrong and cherish my law in your hearts. Do not be afraid of people’s scorn or their slanderous talk” (Isaiah 51:7 NLT). This promise is given to those who follow God’s laws and value his Word. If you’re doing this — if you’re following Jesus to the best of your ability — then you don’t need to fear people’s threats. Be calm and courageous!
