“As your words are taught, they give light; even the simple can understand them.”

— Psalm 119:130 (NLT)

Turn On the Light!

You’re home alone when the electricity is knocked out during a lightning storm. Heart pounding, you crouch in total darkness for a moment. Then you remember the emergency supply of candles and matches in the kitchen drawer. Hands waving in front of you, you grope your way toward the kitchen. You bang your shins on the corner of an end table, hit your hip on the door frame, and slip on the rug in front of the kitchen sink. You’re so grateful when you find the candles and matches. After striking a match, you light several candles and place them around the house. The light pushes back the darkness, showing you where to walk and how to avoid painful encounters.

God’s Word is like that. As the principles are studied and put into practice, they give us light to live by. The Bible shows us how to be healthy, how to prosper, how to grow in love for others, and how to avoid dangerous situations. “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path” (Psalm 119:105).

Is there an area of your life where you’re stumbling in darkness? Then open God’s Word, read and study, and be amazed at the light God shines on your problem.
