“But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.”

— Deuteronomy 4:29

Cara’s feelings about a boy in her neighborhood had her totally confused. Rumors said Troy was a little wild, and her parents didn’t trust him after witnessing an angry explosion. Yet, he was funny, and he liked Cara. Just being near him made it hard for Cara to breathe. She wondered how God felt about her hanging with him. She prayed about Troy once in a while, but her feelings remained confused. Why didn’t God answer her?

For one thing, Cara treated God like a vending machine. She tossed in her quarter (a minute of her time) and expected an answer to fall into her hand. She wasn’t seeking God with her whole heart and mind. One day, after fighting with her mom about Troy, Cara shut herself in her room and got serious. She opened her Bible, prayed, read, and prayed some more. Lying on her bed, she waited and listened. By the end of the morning, she had her answer. It wasn’t what she’d hoped for, but she felt God was impressing on her to avoid Troy.

God is there for you at all times. Seek him with your whole heart and an open mind, and you will find him.
