“Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long.”

— Psalm 119:97

Go Ahead — Soak It Up!

Do you ever soak in a tub full of bubbles? It’s soothing, peaceful, and totally relaxing — pure heaven. So is soaking in God’s Word. When we love something, we love to think about it. If you love a person, it’s the natural thing to do to think about him or her. And if you love God’s Word, his letters to us in the Bible, you’ll spend time thinking about it. You’ll ponder how to apply the words to your life.

When you soak in the tub, your skin wrinkles like a prune. That’s changing from the outside in. When you soak in God’s Word, he changes you from the inside out. Meditating on Scripture verses can replace stress with peace; sickness with healing; anger with compassion; hate with love; worry with faith; and weariness with energy. That’s a lasting kind of makeover. If you have a special need right now — peace, rest, strength to persist — find a verse that specifically addresses that subject. Memorize it, or at least carry around the verse on a card. Then, at free moments during the day, read and think about the verse, especially how you could apply it to your life and situation.
