“Friendship with the Lord is reserved for those who fear him. With them he shares the secrets of his covenant.”

— Psalm 25:14 (NLT)

God’s Friend

You probably have one or two very good friends. They get to be your friends, because they show respect to you. They respect your opinion, your time, your property, and your feelings. Because they treat you this way, you trust them and share many secrets with them — secrets you don’t share with just anyone. You have no desire to share special things with people who make fun of your opinions or ignore your feelings.

God reveals special things to us too — if we respect him and obey his Word. If we are already doing what his Word says, we are his friends. And when we need special information (like “Should I go to this party?” or “Should I try out for the swim team?”), he will give it to us. Jesus told his disciples the same thing: “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you” (John 15:15).

What could be more exciting than being friends with God and having him tell you secrets about himself, your life, and his many promises?
