“Let the peace (soul harmony which comes) from Christ rule (act as umpire continually) in your hearts [deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds].”

— Colossians 3:15 (AMP)

Wait and Listen

Let’s say you need to make a decision. You want to go out for volleyball, your mom suggests that you sign up for flute lessons, and your dad thinks you might start an after-school babysitting business instead. It’s your choice. You wish you could do all three, but there isn’t enough time. You have to choose, but you’re so confused!

Don’t blindly push ahead with a plan until you feel at peace. Sit or lie down at night, be still, and pray about your situation. Is there any anxiety in your heart? Do you think of reasons this might be a bad idea? Does your conscience warn you that there’s something wrong in your plan of action? If you sense any of these things, stop. Don’t make that decision yet. It might not be God’s will, or it just might not be the right time yet. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths” (Proverbs 3:5 – 6 NLT). Wait for God to guide you where it’s safe to follow.
