“And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will be given what you ask for. Keep on looking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened.”

— Luke 11:9 (NLT)

Seek and Find

Have you ever been on a scavenger hunt? The list of items to find is long, and sometimes you look a long time before you find an item. Prayer can be like that. God promises that if we keep on asking, we’ll be given what we need. If we keep searching for answers, we’ll find them.

Can you ask for and receive anything you desire? Probably not. No matter how many times you ask your parents for a car of your own, you won’t get one until you’re old enough to drive safely. That’s because they love you and want to protect you. God, your heavenly Father, is the same.

As you look for God’s answers, one of two things will happen. God may give you what you asked for, or he may change your desire as you spend time with him. You may lose your desire for what you’ve been praying for. God will change your desire to match what he wants to give you — something much better than what you asked for in the first place.
