“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.”

— Ephesians 6:18

Say a Little Prayer

Pray on ALL occasions? When you’re lonely? When you’re at a party? When you wake up in the night? When you jog? When you eat? Yep — all those times, and more. God’s interested in every detail of your life and loves you to share it with him. Don’t you just love it when your best girlfriend calls to talk? You eagerly tell each other every tiny detail about your activities of the day. God feels the same way when we frequently take time out to talk to him.

Sometimes we don’t pray much, because we get too busy with things we need to do. We might only pray when we’re in trouble or upset. We do pray more when in desperate need of guidance or comfort. But sometimes we don’t pray because we don’t know what to say. We are to “pray in the Spirit” — and it is the Holy Spirit who helps us to pray. “The Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans” (Romans 8:26).

Go ahead. Close this book and take a few minutes to tell God about your day. He’s waiting to listen, and he’s all ears.
