“Oh, why didn’t I listen to my teachers? Why didn’t I pay attention to those who gave me instruction? I have come to the brink of utter ruin, and now I must face public disgrace.”

— Proverbs 5:13 – 14 (NLT)

Hearing Impaired

Someone at the end of his life spoke these words. When it was too late, he realized that the teachers in his youth had tried to help him learn valuable lessons for life. But he didn’t pay attention and had come to ruin.

You have teachers at home (your parents and grandparents), at school (your instructors), and at church (Sunday school teachers, pastors, and youth leaders). They’re all trying to help you learn valuable things so your life will be successful. Sometimes we feel these people are too old and too “out of it” to be able to teach us what we need to know. They didn’t grow up in our world, so how can they know what things to teach us?

Because some things never change. Principles for building loving relationships, gaining financial success through hard work, and taking care of our bodies don’t change. Those principles are found in the Bible, and the Word of God is the same forever.
