“Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?”

— Luke 1:42 – 43

Let’s Celebrate — Together!

Half the fun in having something good happen to you is sharing the joy with someone who’s excited for you. God set it up that way. We see it in the Bible, when two women received fabulous news.

First there was Elizabeth, who was “very old” (Luke 1:7) and still didn’t have any children. When an angel came to her husband, Zechariah, and told him Elizabeth was going to have a son, Elizabeth was one happy lady.

Six months later, her relative Mary also had a visit from an angel, telling her that she too was going to have a baby. Mary wasn’t as excited as Elizabeth at first. She wasn’t even married yet. But the angel assured her that this was a good thing, that this baby was the Messiah himself, the Son of God.

Mary hurried to Elizabeth’s house, but she didn’t even have to tell Elizabeth what was going on. John leaped inside Elizabeth’s belly, and she was filled with God’s Spirit. Next to Mary and Joseph, she was the first one to believe that Jesus was God’s Son, before he was even born. That must have been reassuring to Mary. That’s the kind of friends God made us to be.
