“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.”

— Ecclesiastes 4:9 – 10

Reaching Goals: Get Support

Some goals, especially small ones that can be done today or very soon, you can do alone. But large goals are easier to reach if you get help and support from others. Two working together are better than each person working alone.

Suppose your goal is to train your singing voice so you can sing solos at church or school someday. You can work alone, but how much better to ask for the support and help of your family, your music teacher at school, or your youth leader.

Way back in Genesis 2:18, God said it wasn’t good for a man (or a girl) to be alone. He knows we do better with help, so don’t be ashamed or shy about asking for support. Even Jesus sent his disciples out two by two when it was time for them to minister (Mark 6:7). You’ll be able to achieve your goals much easier (and have encouragement on the days you want to quit) if you enlist help from other people. So look for help in reaching your goals, and be sure to help others reach theirs!
