“There is one body and one Spirit — just as you were called to one hope when you were called — one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.”
— Ephesians 4:4 – 6
You’re so much alike!”
Ever heard that said about you and your best friend — or even your whole group of best buds? It’s neat, actually, to be identified as a group. Even though you’re each unique, it gives you a close feeling to know you’re connected by what you have in common.
The whole community of God is like that. Each person is created as a special individual, and yet we’re all part of one thing:
• One Body — the body of Christ, which is the whole Christian church.
• One Spirit — the Holy Spirit of God which fills us all and guides us along.
• One Hope — that Jesus will return and set everything right, once and for all — no more pain and sorrow and disappointment.
• One Faith — our belief that Jesus died so that we can live forever with God.
• One Baptism — that sacrament that says we’ve committed ourselves to living as Jesus taught us and that we’ll someday be in heaven with God.
• One God and Father of All — which requires no explanation!
That’s what makes us a family. That’s what we belong to.
Girl Talk: Tell as many members of God’s community as you can that you are glad to be in the same family. Hugs are optional, but encouraged!
God Talk: “Wow, Jesus! It’s incredible that I get to be a part of your community, one that stretches from my own neighborhood to the other side of the world. Thank you! Amen.”
