“Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty that depends on fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should be known for the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.”

— 1 Peter 3:3 – 5 (NLT)

Unfading Beauty

Our current culture places all its importance on outer beauty. Beauty is a billion dollar business, including plastic surgery, exercise equipment, and designer clothing. From the movies to magazines, our world screams that outer beauty is all that matters. Not true! We all know girls who are gorgeous, but when they open their mouths, nasty things spew out. Suddenly, they lose their beauty. If you’re unhappy, lonely, insecure, and crabby, a total body makeover won’t change a thing. The beauty has to start in your heart.

How do you acquire this kind of beauty that is so precious to God? By spending time alone with him. Talk to him. Read his Word. The neat thing about inner beauty is its ability to transform how you look on the outside. Some of the most beautiful women in history didn’t have good facial features or fancy clothes. They had an inner peace and a loving spirit that radiated, making them beautiful on the outside as well.
