“I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.”

— Luke 10:21

You’re In!

One of the clearest ways God shows us that we are worthy of love without having to DO or BE anything is through Jesus. When our Lord picked his disciples, he wasn’t like a team captain on the playground, calling out the names of the best players to be on his side. Jesus selected the most motley crew you could dream up — a big ol’ fisherman, who was always losing his temper; a tax collector people couldn’t stand (ask your parents about the IRS and you’ll understand); a whole bunch of guys who had to have everything explained to them, like, twenty times.

In this verse, Jesus even says they’re “little children,” not all smart and educated, just open to learning, willing to obey, eager to please. Little kids don’t try to be that way — they simply are. Jesus praised God for them. He praises God for you. And he reveals himself to you. So don’t worry. You’ve already been picked for the team. You don’t have to stand there pretending you don’t care while everybody else lines up behind the captains. You’re in, and you always have been.
