“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect his will really is.”

— Romans 12:2 (NLT)

Brand-New

The world is full of evil practices, violence, and dishonesty. Don’t copy the ways of the world! Instead, let God change you from the inside out into a new person by changing your thinking. This changing — or transforming — isn’t a one-time event. It’s a process that takes time, much like the process of a caterpillar changing into a butterfly. After the transformation has taken place, you — like the butterfly — will see the wonderful plan God has for your life.

God wants you to have a joyful, abundant life, but you need to grow daily closer to him. God gave you a new spirit, not a new brain. Your mind still has its old sinful patterns. It needs to be transformed by reading God’s Word and thinking about how to apply it in your everyday life. In time, you’ll experience “love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control” (Galatians 5:22 – 23).
