“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.”

— 1 Chronicles 16:34

Fill It Up

After you’ve run four times around the track during gym class, your fuel tank is low. You feel shaky, so you know you need an energy bar or drink. Inside, you also have a “love tank” that gets empty. God fills it whenever you spend time with him, reading his Word or just talking to him and letting him love you. But when it goes too long between God visits, your love tank gets close to empty. You won’t get the shakes, but symptoms might include being impatient, rude, jealous, or just totally stressed.

Good news! God’s love is everlasting — it never runs out. Even better news — it’s always available to us, just for the asking. It doesn’t matter what time of the day or night it is. It doesn’t matter where you are. It doesn’t matter if you’re alone or in a crowd. When you realize that your love tank is getting low, stop. Get alone if you can, or just close your eyes. Take several deep, deep breaths. Then thank God for being such a good God and for his love, which never runs out.
