“You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous — and how well I know it.”

— Psalm 139:13 – 14 (NLT)

An Inside Job

Imagine God carefully forming you inside your mother’s body, putting together all your miniature inward parts. He created each tiny organ, bone, and muscle, then linked them together in a pattern that created you. What a miracle!

If this is true, then why do girls worry about being too fat or too thin? We fall into the deadly trap of comparing ourselves to others, then envying how they look. Your body image (or how you see yourself) may not be based on the facts. You can feel too skinny, yet look beautiful to everyone else. Most important, you always look beautiful to God! He carefully molded you to look exactly like you do.

It’s fine to want to appear your best. Wash your hair often, press your wrinkled blouse, and wear clothing styles that flatter you. But don’t forget — while people notice the outside of you, God studies your heart. If you really want to change how you feel about your looks, start on the inside. See yourself through God’s eyes, the one who so carefully made you and loves you.
