“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

— 2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)

What Are You Thinking?

It’s common to fear trying new activities, going new places, making decisions, and giving a performance. But you don’t have to be afraid! God hasn’t given you that fear. Instead, he’s given you courage and power for using your abilities, love, and good judgment. You can be levelheaded, with your thoughts and feelings under control.

So how do we get over this fear? “You should not be like cowering, fearful slaves. You should behave instead like God’s very own children, adopted into his family — calling him ‘Father, dear Father’ ” (Romans 8:15 NLT). Instead of shrinking back in fear, call on your Father for help. He wants to give you a sound mind. Ask him for that, then step out in faith. Take that test. Try out for that musical. Enjoy living a life free from fear.

Self-control is a fruit of the Spirit. And that includes controlling your mind.
