“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.”

— Philippians 4:6 (NLT)

Don’t Worry Away: Pray

As believers, we are not to be anxious or upset, troubled or uneasy in our minds. How? Pray about everything, and turn the situations over to God for help. Easier said than done, right? Well, try these ways to tame that worry habit:

• Separate “bad” worry from real concern. Decide if you can do anything about the situation. If so, write down a plan to handle it.

• Don’t worry alone. Talk to a friend, parent, teacher, youth leader, or counselor. By talking it out, you may discover solutions on your own that you couldn’t see before.

• Take care of your body. We are more likely to worry when we’re too tired, aren’t eating healthy meals, and don’t get enough exercise.

• Control your imagination. Don’t get caught up in imagining all kinds of horrible “what-ifs.” Our imaginations can take us from mild worry to a full-blown anxiety attack if we don’t choose more realistic thoughts.

• Trust God. Whatever situation you’re facing, invite God into the middle of it.

Worry is a bad habit, but trusting God can become a habit too. So tame that worry habit, and live a life filled with peace.
