“The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple . . . They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold.”

— Psalm 19:7, 10

Pure Gold

We all have things we consider valuable. One girl might value her big house with a swimming pool, while another girl might value straight A’s or a spot on the swim team. David (who wrote many of the psalms) thought God’s Word, the Bible, was the most valuable thing — even more valuable than gold! We also must learn to value God’s Word above everything else we have.

How do you treat something that is valuable to you? You look at it. You spend time with it. You don’t forget about it, but instead often put it first before everything else. We must treat God’s Word that way. “And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands I am giving you today . . . Talk about them when you are at home and when you are away on a journey, when you are lying down and when you are getting up again” (Deuteronomy 6:6 – 7 NLT). As we place a high value on God’s Word, we’ll see God change our lives in brand-new ways.
