“I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.”

— Philippians 4:11

Crafting a Content Heart

Learn to be satisfied with how things are, no matter what is happening in your life. Whether you have too little, just enough, or more than enough, be stable and unchanging in your moods. Learn to get along happily, whether you have much or little.

Amber found it easier to be content with her life when her dad still had his high-paying job. When he was laid off, and Amber had much less, a discontented spirit set in. Over several months, though, Amber learned to be content. She learned to enjoy videos and popcorn at home with her family instead of going into the city to a show. In fact, she had to admit that she enjoyed her family a lot more every day, now that her dad was home in the evenings.

If you have asked God for something that is going to be good for you, he will give you what you asked for. But rest in the knowledge that if it’s not right, God will do something far better than you asked for. Trust him completely to handle the situation. A contented heart — free from anxious thoughts and worries — is a priceless possession.
