“How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word.”

— Psalm 119:9

Wash Me

Have you ever seen a newborn baby? It is a grimy sight at first! You arrived here looking just like that too. The truth is, newborns need help getting cleaned up. And that first bath starts a practice of regular washing that keeps a child healthy and clean for the rest of his or her life.

As you grow older, someone teaches you what to do, and you’re able to wash yourself off regularly, keeping yourself clean on your own. And even though you know what to do now, sometimes the mess gets so big, you need help getting cleaned up. The beauty of believing is like that too!

Just like that newborn baby, when you’re first born into God’s family, all the grubbiness of your life before clings to you. Messy birth is part of being born into the family of Father God. Yet, God never intends to leave you icky! It pleases God to wash you clean when dirty situations start to pollute your life. When you’re not in the best of moods, your parents don’t seem to understand, or if your friends start treating you unkindly, your Father in heaven will wash you clean.
