“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

— Matthew 6:33

First Things First

God’s Word says that if we will make living for the Lord our first concern, he will give us all we need from day to day. Stop chasing after material possessions. Focus on the kingdom of God, and let the things chase you!

For example, do you wish you had more friends? Instead of working hard to impress people or buy friendship with flattery or gifts, seek God instead. Ask him how you can meet someone else’s need for friendship, how you can show his love to people. As you focus on living for God, he will provide you with friends. And they will be true, loyal friends — not the fickle kind you can buy.

Or do you wish you had more money to buy things you need? Then do things God’s way. First, give some money away to a person who needs it. God will then provide for your own needs, often in a way you least expect it.

Put first things first. Live your life to be pleasing to the Lord, and don’t worry about getting things. Make living for God the main thing, and he will see that you have everything you need.
