“Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.”

— Genesis 12:1

Have a Little Faith

Abram and his wife, Sarai, were living in Mesopotamia when God told Abram he wanted him to set off on a pilgrimage to a better land where he (God) would be honored. You might think, “Hey, a road trip — I’m there!”

But travel was rough in those days. People had to carry everything they owned with them, including tents to live in, and there were dangers along the way, from wild animals to desert robbers. And God didn’t spell out for Abram exactly where he was going to end up. He just said, “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you . . . and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” All of it came true, over many centuries, but Abram couldn’t know that. All he had was God’s word. That was the thing about Abram — he never questioned God. If God said do it, he just went for it.

Could you be quicker to obey God when you know how to behave? When it comes to the authority of God, it’s a good idea to be like Abram and move now, ask questions later.
