“Caleb interrupted, called for silence before Moses, and said, ‘Let’s go up and take the land — now. We can do it.’ ”

— Numbers 13:30 (MSG)

Be a Possibilitarian

The “Making a Difference” Club recommendations were due. But when LeeAnne suggested helping with the inner city reading program, everyone shot her down.

“Look,” April said, “those kids don’t want to learn to read. And they could start trouble. It’s a bad idea, LeeAnne. Let’s just have a can collection, like we always do.”

But LeeAnne wouldn’t let it go. She insisted, “Guys, this is our ministry. And we’ve dedicated our work to Jesus, so he’ll help us. We can really make a difference teaching kids to read.”

Sometimes, we just have to take a stand. We have to become a Possibilitarian. We have to speak up, go against peer pressure, and ignore the naysayers who tell us “It can’t be done,” or “Let’s do something easier.” That’s the kind of attitude God admires and blesses.

Both Joshua and his friend, Caleb, had that mindset. When Moses sent them and ten others to check out Jericho, these two were the only ones who returned with a good report. Everyone else said, “The men are like giants; we’ll get slaughtered. We’re not going.” But Caleb saw the possibilities because he knew that with God’s help anything is possible.
