“Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely.”

— Psalm 139:4

In His Hands

What have you planned lately? Your birthday party? A sleepover with friends? A way to keep your little brother from reading your diary? To make sure it was going to work out, you had to have all the information beforehand. For a party, for instance, you needed to know how much money you had to spend, how many friends you could invite, and how much chaos your mom was willing to put up with.

God has a plan for your whole life, which means he has to know absolutely everything about you. Everything — like:

• what you can do without so much as a thought (your natural strengths).

• what you have to work at (your challenges).

• how you get along with people (and don’t!).

• what scares you.

• what makes you totally jazzed.

There isn’t anything about you that God doesn’t know. Since God is the only one who knows you that well — even your parents don’t know your innermost thoughts all the time, right? — only God can set up a life for you. In fact, it’s already done: “All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be” (Psalm 139:16).
