MISTAKE 3

Expecting an Expensive Camera to Last for Life

Who are you kidding? Technological advancements accelerate at an astonishing rate every year. Cameras are no exception. Buy and keep quality lenses, but retire the camera when periodic updates in new models are worth the replacement. A professional photographer benefits from improved camera features that are updated with even better capabilities in the next model. Increased pixel capability is not always the supreme aim; pixel power needs to be valued along with all the other new features and increased capacities that come along.

Keep in mind that a digital camera may wear out after a certain number of “clicks” (actuations). Although some mechanisms on the camera can be replaced, would you buy a computer and expect to simply replace parts for years? Carefully review the equipment or lease it on trial prior to purchase. A ten-year-old camera might as well be as old as this 1915 Seneca Folding Scout camera.
