Being “Honest” by Entirely Skipping Postproduction

If you see a creative opportunity, take it. Even landscape photography benefits from enhancement—although it’s best not to make it too obvious. Learn and practice what it takes to make an image look its best and even better than it was in reality, keeping in mind that no scene or subject benefits from looking overdone and overworked. That’s not a pretty picture.

While walking around after...

While walking around after a WPPI convention in Las Vegas, I was attracted to the dramatic lines and colors surrounding an escalator. I asked a photographer buddy to lean on the middle stair rail between two escalators while I took a quick “snap.” The shot was mainly intended for use on her Facebook page.

The image stuck in my head until one day when I needed some photographic R & R. A few swishes and swooshes here and there cut away my friend’s coat, elongated her neck, and provided a new “do” for her hair. The rest didn’t need much of anything.
