Turns out writing a book, like many other things, is very difficult during a pandemic. At the beginning, I thought it would be a great opportunity to lock myself indoors and complete multiple works, but I struggled to get even this one done. I’m not much of a people person, but so much of writing comes from witnessing life, in all its many forms, that being stripped of that robbed me of inspiration.
Nonetheless, the book is finished. As always, the team at Evolved Publishing stood ready at every turn. I’m eternally grateful to Mike Robinson, Richard Tran, and Dave Lane (aka Lane Diamond). Books go through a lot before they reach publication, and it is these gatekeepers that ensure my book is as enjoyable and attractive as it can be.
I’d like to thank Mistie Cogdill, now a published author in her own right, who has been here with me since the very first in the series, always eager to read and honest with her opinions. She helps breathe life into my characters. It’s no coincidence that this book takes place at Misty Lake.
To my beta readers: Amanda, Sammie, and Rachael. These three give the best reader reactions, balancing a tightwire between fan and critic, always careful to consider my ego while simultaneously telling me everything I need to fix. I appreciate all that they do.
Right before I started this book, I received a random message from a stranger asking if I’d like to join a local writing group. I took the leap, joined The Revenants of Yore, and met three wonderful guys who contributed greatly to this book. Thank you, Samuel, Cameron, and Mason, for coming out of nowhere to provide so much value.
To my wife, Akaemi—I always must thank her. She’s helped me along the way on every step of this journey, rooting for me, challenging me, and leading me when I got lost.
And of course, many thanks to the fans. I’ve moved to a new area of the country and just now started to venture out into the world to meet people at conventions, festivals, and markets. It’s encouraging to see that here, too, I will find a home among my people.
Just one more book left in the series, folks. I intend to jump the shark as hard as I possibly can, so stay tuned.
