Beg dec: foll patt as established, sc2tog before and after each of 6 cables every other row 3 times. There will be 20 sts left after all dec are made.
Next row: Sc2tog across, fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Gather the rem sts and pull tightly, then sew back seam, using tapestry needle. Weave in ends.

Ch 25, work 2 sc in each ch; fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing. Stitch curlicues to top of hat.
