When we get to the zoo,
Mr. Blazak gives everyone
a map of the grounds.
He assigns each of us
a site to explore:
Kyra—the bison pen,
Megan—Bird Valley,
Me—Reptile House.
Thet waves his map,
smiles,
shrugs.
Mr. Blazak puts his arm
around Thet.
“You and I will be a team,”
he tells him.
Krista, who is six, says,
“I want to be on your team, Daddy!”
Mrs. Blazak tells Krista,
“You read English, Krista.
You can find the lions
all by yourself.”
Krista sighs, then studies her map.
But I understand
how she feels.
It’s nice to be on a team
with your daddy.
