Dad calls and we both
cry on the phone.
Mom acts normal
but her eyes
are red and puffy.
We go to Aunt Darnell
and Uncle Tim’s.
Jackson is wearing
a pink bunny suit—
my old
Halloween costume.
He hops around
all afternoon.
I want to sock him.
Uncle Tim tells
stupid elephant jokes:
“What time is it
when an elephant
sits on your fence?—
Time to get a new fence.”
Ha-ha.
Time for new jokes,
Uncle Tim.
Aunt Darnell pulls Mom
into the kitchen.
They whisper
for an hour.
All I want is
to go home
and crawl under
the covers.
All I want is
for the worst Easter
of my life
to be over.
