PANCAKES LIKE CRAZY

Everyone flips for our pancakes.
The line into The Dancing Pancake
curls all the way around the block.
Mom helps Ruby Frances wait tables.
Uncle Tim takes over the counter,
keeps the coffeemakers bubbling.
Thet is elbow-deep in dirty dishes.
Aunt Darnell flips pancakes like crazy.
I fill endless syrup bottles,
napkin holders, sugar jars.
Jackson—who was supposed to be
quietly coloring at the counter—
starts “decorating” the menus.
We are busy and whizzy
and spinning through the day.
It’s so tiring!
And … fun?
