Megan is back from
Disney World!
Her mom drops her off
to spend the day at
The Dancing Pancake.
Ruby Frances is showing off
the tiny butterfly tattoo
on her shoulder.
Thet is singing a Burmese song.
One of the customers
is doing magic tricks for Jackson—
pulling quarters from
his nose.
Aunt Darnell fixes Megan and me
waffles with strawberries
and whipped cream.
We sit in the back booth.
Megan sighs. “You are so lucky,
Bindi. Your life is ten times
more interesting than mine.”
I look up from my waffle.
“Are you kidding? You just
got back from Disney World.”
“Yeah,” she says. “But I don’t live
in Disney World.”
Then she squeals, points out the window.
“Look, Bindi, there’s a policeman.
He’s arresting somebody right outside.
You’re so lucky.”
