About the Authors
JEFF BROWN, PsyD, ABPP, is a board-certified clinical and cognitive-behavioral psychologist on faculty in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and a Clinical Associate at McLean Hospital, Harvard’s largest psychiatric facility. He is a member of the Association for Applied Sport Psychology, the American Psychological Association, the United States Olympic Committee’s Registry of Psychologists, and is a Fellow of the Academies of Clinical Psychology and Behavioral Psychology.
Dr. Brown is considered a pioneer in bringing sports psychology to the masses. In 2002, he became the first psychologist to serve on the Boston Marathon medical team. In addition, in 2008 he joined the Chicago Marathon and Houston Marathon medical teams as team psychologist. Dr. Brown is also the author of The Competitive Edge. He lives and practices in Boston. MARK FENSKE, PhD, a former research fellow and faculty member at Harvard Medical School, is an Assistant Professor (Neuroscience & Applied Cognitive Science) in the Department of Psychology at the University of Guelph. As a specialist in cognitive and affective neuroscience, his research combines neuroimaging with behavioral studies to reveal how attention and emotion influence cognitive performance.
Dr. Fenske serves on the editorial boards for the journals Emotion and Psychological Research, and has been a reviewer for nearly two dozen professional publications, including Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience, Cerebral Cortex, Cognitive Brain Research, and Neuropsychologia. In addition, he was selected in 2009 to serve on the Committee of Experts in Psychology, Psychiatry and Cognitive Neuroscience by the Canada Foundation for Innovation. He lives in Guelph, Ontario.
