The tears flowed freely as Macy processed what she was seeing. Papa was dead. She couldn’t see the cubs, but Mama wailed as she mourned the murder of her spouse.
A gunshot knocked Macy out of her trance, drawing her attention to Miriam and Kim, now fighting each other on the ground. Then to Abby disappearing into the tree line.
Miriam had finally found her, just like she knew she would. Or had Macy found Miriam?
“Mir!” she shouted.
The girls stopped fighting. Both heads popped up and registered Macy.
Found.
