Do you know your parents’ phone numbers, just in case of an emergency? It’s a good idea to memorize them! Most phone numbers are 10 digits long—3 digits for an area code, plus 7 digits for the rest of the number. What’s a digit, you ask?
A digit is any numeral from 0 to 9. For example: What digit is in the tens place of 872, and how much does it stand for? Answer: 7 is in the tens place, and it stands for 70. Easy, right?
The digit all the way to the right of a number is the ones place, then move left to the tens place, then left to the hundreds place, if it’s a three-digit number. A single digit only has the ones place!
