ABOUT THE AUTHORS
LOREN FISHMAN, MD, is a graduate of Christ Church, Oxford, where he studied philosophy. He graduated from Rush Medical School, trained at Harvard-Tufts, and did his residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He studied yoga with B.K.S. Iyengar and has been practicing yoga daily for thirty years; he regularly uses yoga in his medical practice. Dr. Fishman has published more than seventy-five academic papers in his specialty of rehabilitation medicine and in the philosophy of science. He is associate editor of the peer-reviewed Topics in Geriatric Rehabilitation. In addition, he has coauthored two other books about low back pain: Back Pain: How to Relieve Low Back Pain and Sciatica and Sciatica Solutions: Diagnosis, Treatment, and Cure of Spinal and Piriformis Problems. His three books about the use of yoga for treating medical conditions are Yoga for Osteoporosis: The Complete Guide, Yoga for Arthritis: The Complete Guide, and Yoga and Multiple Sclerosis: A Journey to Health and Healing. He also coauthored Functional Electromyography: Provocative Maneuvers in Electrodiagnosis. Dr. Fishman is on the staff at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City and is in private practice. A frequent blogger, lecturer, and interview subject, Dr. Fishman has also appeared on national television as a back pain expert and as an authority on the use of yoga for medical conditions.
CAROL ARDMAN is a writer and editor specializing in health and medicine. She is coauthor, with Dr. Fishman, of Back Pain: How to Relieve Low Back Pain and Sciatica and Sciatica Solutions: Diagnosis, Treatment, and Cure of Spinal and Piriformis Problems. Her many articles have appeared in the New York Times, Ms. magazine, Boston magazine, the New York Daily News, and numerous holistic health magazines, professional journals, and Web sites. As an editorial and media consultant, she has been instrumental in launching new publications in the complementary and alternative medicine field.
