Candace didn’t have family. No one had come to visit her when they were in that place together. That was another thing the two of them had in common. Those people only said he belonged to them so they could get his power. At first, she just sat staring at the television when everyone else had visiting hours. After a while she started calling someone. It turned out to be some sister who lived far away and had a few brats so she couldn’t come. Candace had no one to protect her. Even better, she’d pushed everyone out of the picture for him. No one would be coming to rescue her. She must have realized he was coming for her, but too late. She was corrupted and there was no going back. He was almost sorry to do it, but the world would be a better place without her tempting men to debase themselves.
It was time. He was ready and he had his plan. Capturing her in broad daylight would prove to her his power, and to everyone else. He’d practiced handling the gun even if he hadn’t really been able to shoot it. The noise would have made him visible. If she saw it too early she would fight harder. Better to let her stew a little first, think she had a chance. He wanted to see her fear. If he let her have a little hope, then he could watch the light die in her eyes when he took it away. He couldn’t wait for morning.
